Confederation of British Industry

Confederation of British Industry
= CBI
An organization that lobbies for British business on matters of concern, chiefly to the UK government but also to the European Union and other international bodies. Its objective is to help create and sustain the conditions in which British business can compete and prosper. The CBI was formed from a merger of several other employers' organizations in 1965 and now represents some 250 000 UK companies. Its ruling body is the CBI Council, which meets on a quarterly basis in London. There are also 12 regional councils.
